WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING ACUPUNCTURE?

Dry Needling

Dry needling use needles to treat the body. It is also known as trigger point needling or myofascial trigger point dry needling.

It is used to treat myofascial pain.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Muscles sometimes develop knotted areas called trigger points. These trigger points are highly sensitive and can be painful when touched. They are also often the cause of referred pain (or pain that affects another part of the body). Clinicians push thin solid needles through the skin into trigger points. The needles are used to stimulate the tissue, not to inject medication.

Pain affects how your body moves. It is thought that dry needling changes the way the brain and muscles talk to each other to let the system return to a more normal movement pattern.”

Dry needling is not usually recommended as a primary treatment method and will be included as part of your recommended treatment plan, if needed.

Determining how many dry needling treatments you will need begins with an initial consultation with one of our dry needling providers. After this consultation, you will receive a Report of Findings. This provides an opportunity to discuss what your provider has found based upon your exam, health history, and any additional information presented. The Report of Findings also includes the number of dry needling or trigger point therapy treatments suggested by your dry needling provider for your unique situation.

As a general rule, many patients notice that the symptoms of their condition begin to improve within two to three treatments. While the symptoms may decrease during your first few appointments, additional visits may be necessary to alleviate the cause of the condition.
