Loehr Health COVID-19 Update 5/11/2020 at 10:50AM:

Thank you everyone for the encouragement the past month as we weather this pandemic together. Although our clinic was not been mandated to adjust how we conduct patient care, our team  researched, evaluated, and implemented new proactive measures to keep our patients and team members safe during this time.

The newest change to our clinic is that ALL GUESTS AND PATIENTS will stop upon entering our main clinic and be asked to

  • Answer a couple of questions to evaluate if you or someone in your household may have symptoms of or may have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Have your temperature checked (this includes infants)

We also ask that all guests and patients utilize our hand washing and/or sanitizing stations once they enter the facility AND before leaving.

What are your updated guidelines for seeing patients during COVID-19?
Here are the guidelines we have in place:

  • If you have no fever and no respiratory symptoms: We recommend you keep your normally scheduled appointments.
  • If you have any respiratory symptoms, a fever >100.0, have traveled out of the country or the state within the past 14 days, or have been in contact with someone who may have COVID-19: Please call us and speak with us, we will need to reschedule the appointment.
  • If you have severe symptoms, it is recommended that you contact your primary care office or an Urgent Care facility prior to visiting the ER. Missouri Department of Health has encouraged telemedicine visits at this time, even if you’ve never previously been a patient at that facility.

  • We are following all CDC guidelines for our facility and are taking every precaution to keep our staff and patients healthy.
  • All clinical employees wear a face mask when working with patients.
  • With our patients and employees as our primary concern—to practice social distancing—patients may wait in their car for their doctor if they choose to do so.
  • If you plan to wait in your car, please just give us a call when you have arrived for your appointment.
    • A Loehr Health Center employee will come out to your car with a sanitized buzzer (much like at a restaurant). Your buzzer will go off when it is time for you to see the doctor.

I saw you are using homemade masks. Are you changing them between each patient?

We are following the CDC’s Interim Guidance for the use of face masks and personal protective equipment (PPE). Team members have been using HOCl Solutions disinfectant/sanitizer, and/or soap and water to disinfect the masks regularly.

Are you open for massage appointments?

Yes, we are open for massage appointments. Our massage therapists, like all other Loehr Health Center team members, wear a mask. All massage clients must follow the previously outlined intake procedure.

How can you help support us during this time?

One of the core values of our company is Community. We are continuing to support our community by remaining open to assist healthcare services. Our clinic is categorized as an essential healthcare business. Loehr Health Center (LHC) will remain open and treat patients. It is not easy for us to ask for help, but it is necessary to ensure that we are able to sustain the level of service we strive to deliver. There are many ways you can help support our team at this time.

  • The first way seems counterintuitive, but taking care of yourself is the first way to support our team. We are considered essential for a reason! That means, as long as you are within the COVID-19 treatment guidelines, you should continue to follow your recommended treatment plan.
  • If you know someone who is experiencing non-respiratory health condition, refer them to our clinic. Our physicians are specialized in diagnosing and treating a wide range of chronic conditions.

Posted 3/17/2020

Hello,

Amidst the fear of the unknown COVID-19, I want to ease your minds a little and let you know where we, Loehr Health, stand in regards to our patient and employee care.

Our number one priority for our patients and team is to PROMOTE HEALTH. This begins with PREVENTION, not REACTION. Loehr Health Center was established around the philosophy that if you can keep your body healthy, it can defend itself with a strong immune system. Our approach to COVID-19, is really no different than our approach to the common cold, flu, or any other virus…wash your hands, sanitize, take your vitamins, eat healthy, and exercise. That's how we fight a pandemic. Together, we all make OURSELVES healthier, and we make sure that we don't contribute to spreading it.

In our office, we are being extra diligent about keeping our office clean, our hands clean, and getting fresh air throughout the clinic. Please, be respectful and make sanitizing a top priority for yourself when you visit us. When you arrive for your appointments, please stop in the restrooms by the front desk and wash your hands before moving on through our office. We also have hand sanitizer on the walls throughout the clinic…please use it 😊.

First, I want to address the obvious differences in our approach to healthcare versus a traditional medical clinic or hospital system. One, we approach sickness from a prevention side first. We understand that there is fear of public spaces and contact with others right now, but a visit to our office can actually help PREVENT you from getting sick. Yes, studies actually show that your immune system is boosted with a chiropractic adjustment.

Secondly, unlike a medical doctor that can do a Skype or telemedicine consult, physical medicine and chiropractic requires you to be present in our office for treatment. This obviously brings more challenges to our office with the COVID-19 scare. So, we have established some guidelines to help keep our patients and staff as healthy as possible, while trying to make sure we must not face a quarantine period that could entirely close our clinic.

Guidelines:

  • If you have no fever and no upper respiratory symptoms. We recommend you keep your normally scheduled appointments.
  • If you have isolated, upper respiratory symptoms and no fever, we recommend you call our office prior to your appointment and let us know, so that we may take the appropriate precautions at your scheduled appointment time.
  • If you have lower respiratory symptoms and/or fever, at this time, please call us and speak with us. We might need to reschedule your appointment. We might recommend testing. However, the COVID-19 testing kits are unavailable to us at this time, so we would need to send you elsewhere.

If you have severe symptoms, please go directly to a hospital. From what we know thus far about COVID-19, symptoms severe enough to require hospitalization occur approximately nine to twelve days after symptoms first appear.

Now, here are some ways to help avoid sickness (including COVID-19):

  • Wash Your Hands. I'm not sure why we have to tell people this now, but…please, wash your hands 😊
  • Get adjusted. Your nervous system controls your immune system, so stimulate both with your chiropractic visit. Make sure you follow our protocols listed above, but keep your regularly scheduled maintenance or wellness appointments in our office.
  • Take Your Vitamins. Specifically, make sure you are getting a multivitamin, probiotic, Echinacea, elderberry and vitamin C. If you need any of these, you can purchase them at our office or we can help you find a quality product elsewhere. We have many other products that can help FIGHT bacterial and viral sickness, so if you are already having symptoms, ask us about these.
  • Get Acupuncture. We have a specific protocol that will boost your immune system, and we have four practitioners in office.
  • Exercise. Your body needs exercise. When your body heat is elevated temporarily (like during a workout) it also boosts your immune system. You can do workouts at home if you prefer, but please don't hide from the world and stop exercising 😊

It appears that the first (diagnosed) case of COVID-19 might have made it to Springfield yesterday. This is not a, "confirmed" case at this point, only, "suspected". However, if it is not confirmed, rest assured, there will be a confirmed case soon. So, start now working to make yourself healthy enough to fight it.

We will keep you updated as we learn more and more about COVID-19. In the meantime, start fighting it with PREVENTION!

Sincerely,
Dr. Steven Loehr
CEO
