Is five element acupuncture for you?
We don’t treat the symptoms. We treat you.
With our holistic approach to patient care, we know that alleviating the symptoms matters, but we never lose sight of the bigger picture: your health.
Five element acupuncturists evaluate and test the body to find out what the cause of the health condition is, ask you about your life, and then use acupuncture to treat y ou. The symptoms alleviate by healing and restoring the body to its natural state.
Understanding five element acupuncture.
Five element acupuncture is based in Chinese medicine. In this system of acupuncture, fine acupuncture needles are inserted into meridian points to unblock your chi or energy that flows through the body. We can become ill when the chi becomes unbalanced or blocked—in the mind, body, and/or spirit. By inserting the needles into particular points, an acupuncturist works to restore the flow of energy and alleviate symptoms.
Five element acupuncture is different than other approaches, because it is a constitutional based diagnosis approach. This approach recognizes that all ailments have physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional components. It diagnoses and treats who you are as a person and addresses each aspect of illness—including the physical symptoms.
For example, an individual may have fibromyalgia (or widespread pain in the body) after an emotionally traumatic event. The emotional stress can cause physical symptoms to appear in the body if left untreated. Five Element addresses all of the components that affect the body and works to treat them with acupuncture. The physical symptoms are then reduced by treating the root cause of the health condition—whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual.
Five Element Acupuncture FAQs
Five element acupuncturists provide acupuncture as their primary treatment. Our acupuncturists will refer to another provider, if needed, to treat your health condition.
The number and frequency of acupuncture treatments required depends on the patient’s unique health situation and their personal wellness goals. Acute problems may need only four or five treatments. For chronic or longstanding health ailments, a regimen of two to three treatments per week for several months may be required. Individuals who simply want to maintain their current health can often benefit from just three or four treatments a year.
Determining how many acupuncture treatments you will need begins with an initial consultation one of our acupuncturists. After this consultation, you will receive a Report of Findings. This provides an opportunity to discuss what your doctor has found based upon your exam, health history, and any additional information presented. The Report of Findings also includes the number of acupuncture treatments suggested by the doctor for your unique situation.
As a general rule, many patients notice that the symptoms of their condition begin to improve within three to ten treatments. While the symptoms may decrease during your first few appointments, additional visits may be necessary to alleviate the cause of the condition.
Acupuncture coverage varies based on your insurance plan. We are in-network with many companies, but acupuncture is not covered on most plans. We will run your insurance benefits prior to your first appointment, so that you know what is covered before receiving treatment.
