Benefits of Acupuncture for Stress

Acupuncture Works Fast

Whether you are trying to fight day-to-day stresses or a more severe form of anxiety, one of the best benefits of acupuncture for stress is that it works fast. Generally, methods of managing anxiety include therapy and/or medication, which, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association, may take months before they become effective. Acupuncture, on the other hand, can work much more quickly. While some people feel their symptoms lessen over a few acupuncture treatments, others experience relief after just one visit.

Acupuncture Is Natural

Utilizing natural alternative medicines has become extremely popular in today’s day and age. As one of the most widely used natural treatments for relieving pain, acupuncture has found a growing popularity with those looking to decompress stress naturally. Acupuncture can be a great alternative for people who want to avoid prescription drugs, which can be expensive and lead to unwanted side effects.

Acupuncture Can Relieve Stress from Pain

Did you know stress and pain are closely linked to one another? That means if you sit in an office chair all day and experience chronic back and neck pain, you may also be experiencing higher stress levels. Plus, avoiding treatment for one or the other can cause a vicious cycle that will bring you more stress and more pain. The good news? Acupuncture can kill two birds with one stone! As a complementary medical practice that has been around for over 2,000 years, acupuncture’s original use was for treating pain. Over time, however, acupuncture has been found to be very effective in treating stress as well. If you experience pain, stress, or both, acupuncture may be your ideal solution.

Scientifically Proven to Relieve Stress

While you may be skeptical of how effective acupuncture can be, studies have proven acupuncture’s stress-relieving abilities. One study, which was conducted at Georgetown University Medical Center, showed that rats who received electronic acupuncture showed lower stress hormones than rats who did not receive the treatment. Another study, published online in the Journal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies, showed that students who underwent a 20-minute acupuncture session were found to have less anxiety and better memory immediately afterward than those who did not.
