I always knew I wanted to be ,” Dr. Loehr” someday. In high school, an injury to my low back threatened life as I knew it. During one of my basketball games, I blocked a shot and came down with my back extended. I experienced immediate pain and weakness in my legs. Muscle spasms and severe, “knife-life” pain surged through my body. I felt like I had landed on a sword.
Basketball was everything to me and with an injury like that I would have been watching the season instead of playing…I was determined to get better.
I saw a primary care physician and an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. I was seeking answers and praying to get back on the court, but I found no answers and no relief.
Then, my parents introduced me to a chiropractor, Dr. Gerard Porter. Dr. Porter properly diagnosed me with a fractured vertebra and spondylolisthesis. Spondylolisthesis is where one vertebra slides forward over the vertebra beneath it. I had broken the back side of the bone joins, letting my vertebrae slide forward and put pressure on my spinal nerves. Dr. Porter stretched and adjusted my low back. Immediately after the spinal manipulations, I could stand up straighter and was in much less pain. After everything I had tried, I couldn’t believe this could provide such relief. Within a few weeks of visits, Dr. Porter had me out of pain and back on the court. He helped me recover with only his hands…no medications, and no surgery.
This was life changing. Thank God for that injury. It started my journey into natural treatment for pain relief, injury, and treatment of disease without drugs or surgery.
